The field of health advocacy is a growing field, with many national organizations to help patients and advocates navigate care. In this session, Robin Shapiro will help review the major national organizations and how each can help individuals and advocates support patient navigation and care. There will be a discussion about how health advocacy can help diverse patient populations. Identification of national organization, credentialing and efforts to grow the field will also be addressed.
In this session, three presentations will highlight important issues raised for advocates in the wake of the Pandemic including: How telehealth is shaping the future of medicines and how this impacts care and the advocate’s role; How and why advocates must demonstrate their value; and How advocates can overcome obstacles by applying a MOVE mentality.
This panel will cover how the pandemic has changed how people think about life including advance care planning and what advocates should know about it. It will also address how people may be thinking differently about their end of life and their choices and actions. There will be information on what a health care proxy (surrogate) is, how to locate them and what the opportunity is for advocates.
In the last 18 months all humans have experienced mental and physical fears brought on by the pandemic. Whether navigating health choices for yourself, family or clients, we all have been confronted with new reminders of our mortality and how we approach life. In this session, we will explore what happens in the brain and body when we experience loss and how to help gain control and perspective to focus on how to live more positively and productively.
This presentation will define and discuss moral distress and compassion fatigue and provide practical strategies and tools to combat the effects.
Survivor Corps was founded March 24, 2020 as a way for COVID-19 survivors to mobilize in support of all ongoing scientific, medical and academic research in order to improve our understanding of the disease and health care options for those suffering with acute and long term symptoms. In this session, speakers will include personal stories, real-world evidence and how the disconnect between hospitalized COVID-19 patients and non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients led to the largest effort to collect data to advance our understanding and treatment of Long COVID.
As the pandemic continued to build steam, clinicians and researchers began to analyze data which revealed who was disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and why. Innovative strategies were developed to address activities that disproportionately led to virus transmission rates, including: who could isolate safely at home, who could travel for the vaccine and testing and who lived in multi-generational housing. While health care systems scrabbled to slow the spread of the virus, it became clear that traditional ways of accessing health care and the communications strategies to engage people could not universally be applied with success to all populations. Learn the basics of what health equity is and why health equity awareness, training and new strategies to reach populations are being integrated into all aspects of care.
This session will explore COVID’s impact upon primary care delivery and the patient experience, notable trends in preventable disease, and strategies for reclaiming connection to healthcare.
